New National Health Service (NHS) Patients

From 1st April 2026 new patients requesting NHS dental services must register online using the Dental Access Portal.

This is a digital service in Wales that allows individuals to register their interest in receiving routine NHS dental treatment. It eliminates the need to call multiple dental surgeries to find an available NHS dentist.

How It Works: Instead of a first-come, first-served queue, Health Boards use the portal to understand local demand and allocate available places at NHS practices fairly.

Eligibility: You can use the portal if you are 16 or older and have not received routine NHS dental treatment in Wales in the past four years. You can apply online for yourself or on behalf of someone else (such as a child or someone you care for). You must also live at a Welsh address for more than six months of the year or be registered with a Welsh GP practice.

Who It’s Not For: If you are already registered with an NHS dentist, or require urgent/emergency care, you should contact your dental practice or the NHS 111 dental helpline directly.
